"How am I ever going to market a class in underwater sign language?" Use our easy and proven methods. Since your students respect your opinion about diving related matters just...
* Visibly have lots of fun using SeaSigns wherever you are!
- In the store, classroom, and pool with other dive professionals
- Wherever and whenever you dive, including at night!
- On the boat while the compressor or engine are running, or wherever there is noise
- For communication between boat and water surface, or where distance may be a factor
- With other people you find wearing SeaSigns tags – wherever they are
* Post a different Little Diver + Memory Cartoon "Sign of the Week" each week.
SeaSigns can provide you with a 11” x 8.5” Little Diver + Memory Cartoon to post for each week of the year. When people ask you about it ask them what they think it is. Explain about the SeaSigns class. Experience shows many look forward to seeing a new sign each week and realize how useful the class is.
* Tell people you will be using SeaSigns on TRIPS and do it!
Let people know you will be pointing things out and telling them what to look for using SeaSigns -- then offer a pre-trip SeaSigns class. Most people hate to miss seeing things others saw.
* Only tell people what you are signing when they ask.
People often sell themselves on the SeaSigns program if you do not push it on them. As Commander Jim William noted, "...when myself and my assistants use it in the pool/open water (even in the classroom) in our regular diving certification course, the students observe this and are ready to rob a bank to take the specialty so they can talk to one another underwater."
* Demonstrate SeaSigns speed.
- Practice signing before you demonstrate.
- Give a person a pen & paper to simulate a pencil & slate.
- Have another person read aloud a communication from a list you provide.
- When the person starts reading, the writer begins writing and you begin signing.
Note: You will probably finish before the writer has written more than a couple of words, much less handed the paper to another person to read.
* When weather makes diving unappealing, offer SeaSigns as an alternative to a refund.
SeaSigns’ class can be taught without any preparation, if necessary, although we recommend that students look at materials before class. From the evaluation they fill in we know a significant portion do not preview before class, however SeaSigns has yet to see a grade less than 85% on the final exam.
* Have people you teach market for you.
- Teach your staff to sign SeaSigns and encourage them to have fun with it.
- Teach the crew of a boat you use to sign. Tell them what to tell divers about how to contact you.
* Introduce kids to SeaSigns.
SeaSigns, Inc. created a program called Underwater Fun Signing to interest younger students in signing. It has been approved for PADI Seal Team AquaMission and SSI Scuba Ranger program. Ask about Underwater Fun Signing for your agency.
* Use SeaSigns promotional material.
